JUST IN: Conversations Reveals Its "Top 100 of 2008"

What a year 2008 has been! Through the Conversations brand (book club, television broadcast, radio broadcast, magazine, website) there has been hundreds of books read, hundreds of authors interviewed, tons of discussions about the music and books coming into the market as well as an appreciation for the role that music and sports play in the minds of those we want to get addicted to reading. Out of it all, we have had to narrow it down to fit our "Top 100 of 2008" ---but with a twist. Since we have added music to our equation, we decided to break down our list this way: The Top 25 Non-Fiction Titles of 2008, The Top 25 Musical Supporters of Literacy of 2008 and The Top 50 Fiction Titles of 2008.  Since Conversations Book Club and its literary partners are committed to a universal look at the arts, there is a wide variety of genres and ethnicities on our list. One thing you can be sure of is that there is truly something for readers of all literary tastes.

Conversations' Top 25 Non-Fiction Titles of 2008

Conversations' Top 50 Fiction Titles of 2008

Enjoy our selections, and remember to share them with your family and friends. This is one addiction that is worth passing around.

Moderated by Conversations LIVE! radio show host Cyrus A. Webb, the panelists (Deanna Tisdale of the Jackson Advocate Newspaper, Zane Bell of Primerica Financial Services, recording artist Eddie Wright and authors Kia Stokes and Dudley Sykes) will tackle the truth about Mississippi's state flag: what it used to stand for, what some have used it for and if it has become guilty by association.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to join this important discussion. As we prepare for one of the most historic elections of our state and world history, this discussion will do much to show just how much we have advanced in our views of unity and race.

Mississippi Author Kia Stokes enjoys the success of her debut novel UNBOUND

On Tuesday, October 7, 2008 Mississippi author Kia Stokes took a bold step and released her debut novel UNBOUND into the world. The official release took place at the Pearl Public Library at an event hosted by Conversations Book Club.
"I'm proud of this project," Stokes said to the book lovers, family and friends that were there for the event. "This book is for anyone who has ever been entangled in any situation that they thought was hopeless. Unbound lets you know that their is always a way out when you look outside yourself."

The author is quick to tell readers that this is not a book to be labeled as just another 'Church tale'. "My characters are like you and me," she says. "They are ordinary people who have their struggles while at the same time trying to be true to their faith."

Cyrus A. Webb, Conversations Book Club President, agrees with Stokes. "There are so many issues that she addresses in this book that there is truly something for everyone. Conversations is pleased to see someone tackle themes so intense in their literary debut."

Webb plans to incorporate the issues with his various groups. He also chose the book as one of its "Readers Choice Selections", his organizations' logo displayed prominently on the cover of each book "I put my stamp of approval on this one," he says. "Readers of all walks of life will not be disappointed with this one."

Others seem to agree with Webb's assessment. Popular radio station 95.5 Hallelujah FM in Mississippi also chose UNBOUND as their "Book of the Month" for their book club for the month of October 2008. Stokes' book was also discussed by Southern Girls Book Club (below) earlier in the month as well.

On Thursday, October 23, 2008 she held a booksigning at JSU Bookstore, her first official one since the release. With events planned throughout the rest of 2008 and new opportunties opening up literally everyday, Webb believes that the skies are the limits for Kia Stokes' talent.

The book is now available for ordering at any major bookstore and copies can be found in Mississippi at the JSU Bookstore in Jackson and Milestone Bookstore in Pearl.
For more information about Kia Stokes and her book UNBOUND, visit http://www.kiastokes.com.

Conversations Book Club President featured in new interview

Though he interviews hundreds of guests each year through his radio show, television show and book club each year, Conversations Book Club Founder Cyrus A. Webb is rarely known to give interviews himself. That changed in 2008 with so many new projects coming his way, he felt compelled to talk about it all.

Jacki-O's book GROWN AND GANGSTA was published by platinum-selling recording artist/author Corey "C-Murder" Miller (see below). Webb coordinated the "Grown and Gangsta" tour to promote the book and has been working with Miller since 2006.
